In Uganda’s Rhino Refugee Camp, education exists—but resources are scarce. When asked what she reads, a 16-year-old girl replied, “My notes.” With no books, her learning is limited to what’s copied from the chalkboard.
We’ve built a small library in the Omugo community with over 1,000 books. Now, we want to launch a reading program to spark a love of reading among children and youth. But with only 12 hours of daylight and no electricity, it’s hard to read after dark.
We need your help.
We’re requesting 100 Luke Lights (solar reading lights) and 10 Chandler Chargers (solar chargers) to launch this program. Students will earn their lights by reading a set number of books. Top readers will win chargers to keep—and we’ll celebrate their achievement together.
Life in the camp is hard—mud huts, cooking fires, and no power grid. But with your support, these kids can read, grow, and dream beyond the firelight.
Donate today. Help us bring light, books, and hope.
If you would like to purchase a Luke Light or Chandler Charger and donate one to On Mission Global, just order it from Unite-To-Light here. Order between June 16-22 for the donation to go to On Mission Global.
If you would like to donate money for the Reading Program, donate here and designate Reading Program in the comment section.
A big thanks on behalf of the children and youth who will benefit from this program!
